The meeting opened with a moment of silence.

Check in sentence:
Josh Albertson: Josh has a bucket full of beans, tomatoes, and veggies being saved before the frost comes.
Jane Drexler: Pleased to be home after her mother’s death in South Africa- good to be back with you all.
Nadine Hoover: Getting great health care and feeling wonderful. So can focus on other things. Have hired a communications specialist for FPT. Wonderful cooperation is taking place between the different sections in the world. Will now focus on her book
Gay Howard: Struggling with her hearing, but it is improved now.
Valerie Joy: I had a very wonderful retreat at Silver Wattle near Canberra, and the problems in our meeting, we’re all working hard and we are beginning to see some light.
Fenna Mandolang: Glad to be home after travelling to Indonesia for a mini family reunion- meet cousins and eating mangoes.
Tom Martin: in Toronto Canada, on work. Spiritually and physically going well. FPT is going well- all the initiatives are cooperating well. Nadine is showing us the way.. Friends programs are sustainable and Tom has renewed energy. When we take our time under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, many good things happen.
Petrus: Last month was a new month for him.
Deb Wood: Feeling over burdened- getting ready to leave for Bhutan and then Kathmandu for the International Gathering. Too Many emails. Need to lay down some responsibilities.
Colleen Sullivan: 60th birthday yesterday and her daughter got engaged. Very happy with all that. Transitioning to retirement. Attends Wahroonga Meeting and John Michaelis suggested she join FPT-AWP..

Need to follow up with: Chuck Esser, Sisca Friend,Hayley Hathaway, Chris Hughes, Youngsil Kang, Subhash Kattel, Jenna Morales, Ludwig bon Quirog, Vidya

Questions and Feedback on News and Updates:
Nepal Relief; collaborating on Peaceways- which will cover news of all the countries we are involved in.
FPT Council has confirmed the ministry of Val Liveoak, David Zarembka and Nadine. We need to be very clear about the difference of responsibilities between individuals and that of FPT.

Indonesia – no update this month
Korea – no update this month
Nepal – no update this month
Philippines – no update this month
Power of Goodness – no update this month

Reports:
Initiative Coordinators: no additional report

Communications:
We welcome Evan Welkin as the FPT Council Communications Specialist! As we see how Evan settles into his position and how the FPT collaborative efforts evolve, we will reevaluate what AWP specific communication needs remain and how we might best fulfill them.

Evan is a consultant offering communications support for outreach and organizing to charitable non-governmental organizations, businesses and North American Tribes. He is a member of Olympia Monthly Meeting in North Pacific Yearly Meeting, but has lived the last two years in Italy with his wife and son on an organic “agriturismo.”

Evan is returning to the United States in mid-October with his family, looking forward to the arrival of their second child in January. He met his wife Federica in the occupied West Bank through a Christian Peacemaker Teams delegation. He and Federica have a leading to support the wellbeing of peacemakers around the world.

Are we looking to hire someone specifically for FPT-AWP as our Communications Specialist? Nadine advises we wait until Evan is established in the job. Two applicants from Australia and one from the Philippines were considered. As we have just hired Petrus, our funds are stretched.

FPT Council: Tom reported we are doing well.

Resources Needed:
Fall Appeal Letter – to be included in the joint Fall FPT mailing – Tom, how did this go?
Recording Clerk: backup to Valerie still needed–how about asking new YM Reps, like Bob Rhudy or Jack Willis.
Korean Information Writing Summary: we could use someone to condense some of the Korean information to send out to our group, the Council and e-news list.
Stories of Success: The FPT Council suggested we write up the stories of success that have been a part of our work. John started a list of suggested stories we might contribute. Additional stories, edits, or comments would be appreciated. It would be a great addition for Power of Goodness. Nadine will ask Darcia Bowman if she would accept this task- for payment.

Resources Met:
Communications specialist/support.

Decisions/Actions:
AWP Budget proposed for the 2017-2018 fiscal year. Click here to see the proposed budget. Do Friends approve the proposed budget? Friends approved. Fenna to send approved budget to John Kintree and Roy Zetcoff. The Budget for 2018 was approved, with some queries as to the way things are recorded. Tom Suggested that Josh speak with him and other FPT Friends. We do not plan to hold onto reserve funds. Tom remarked that the Budget seems very straightforward, though we need more Sustainer’s funding. Jane explained that the Australian funds are spent as they are donated.

Nepal Relief. Subhash reflected on the experience of relief work after the Gorkha Earthquake of 2015 (see News and Updates). He spoke with Jagat at CSRC and made it clear that Friends Peace Teams expects CSRC to listen to communities to discern the best way to stabilize and support the most fragile and vulnerable people over the next month or two, to strengthen them to face the challenges of reestablishing their daily lives. We ask CSRC to communicate their plans as discernment becomes clear, and give Friends Peace Teams at least a few days to offer feedback. Who on the Working Group is interested and available from now until the end of the calendar year to offer timely feedback as CSRC continues to discern the best way forward?
Nadine will ask John Michaelis and/or Vidya.

Collaboration among the initiatives is really strong right now. We hope to have coordinated mailing to the monthly meetings of all our affiliated yearly meetings and are learning to consult and inform one another. We’d like to encourage a common calendar to help make that real! We could start with our own group public events calendar. Would Working Group members be willing to give Friends Peace Teams joint outreach some attention this fall–announcing to their own monthly, quarterly and yearly meetings? Offer to speak at our own meeting, and neighboring meetings.

International Peace Training in Indonesia is coming up in January. Should we invite 2 Nepalese (use Nepal Fund), 2 Papuans (AU funders), 6 Filipinos (Valerie is fundraising), 2 Chechens or Ukrainians (ask Janet/Bob Rhudy to fundraise), 2 Koreans (NEED funder)? Can Friends help to fundraise for this? Does the Working Group want to fund 2 people from every area we have a commitment to?
We hope that many people can attend. $500 USD cost plus the cost of return airfares= $1,000 for each Korean. The Chechens and Ukrainians are responsible for much of the work of “The Power of Goodness” and it would be good to have them in attendance. Mischa Roshkin in Moscow is supportive of FPT-AWP. Gay thinks it will contribute greatly to further work on the Power of Goodness. Gay is also willing to provide back-up funding to Koreans or Filipinos. Valerie is fundraising in Australia. Jane says there are unallocated funds in the Australian accounts. Bob Hrudy has been approached by Nadine.

International AVP Training in Perth – Siarol Divino from Philippines hopefully attending, someone coming from Nepal and some other countries as well. The scheduling of this Gathering could have been better.
Cebu, Philippines national training in April 2018- hope that others could attend.

Fenna thanked Colleen for her attendance.

Closing word:
Josh Albertson: Forward and onward
Jane Drexler happy
Nadine Hoover: peace is growing in the world
Gay Howard: Funds
Valerie Joy: supportive
Fenna Mandolang: Stories
Tom Martin: Gratitude
Petrus: Enthusiastic
Deb Wood: Light
Colleen Sullivan: Thoughtful
