Power of Goodness – no update this month

Reports:
Initiative Coordinators: No report this month
Communications:
In April I finished up the Spring print mailing and sent the documents, via email, reformatted in A4 paper size to AYM secretary, Jacqueline Schultze to be distributed electronically to Australia local meetings. I also finished up the mailing summary and created a record of donations that come in using remittance envelopes sent in the mailing. Other work that kept me busy was tracking participants for the upcoming Liberation workshop, Jamuna’s upcoming speaking tour, publicity for the 2018 international training, and updating the website, social media and enews.

Josh reported the Balance is very similar to last month.
John reported that Jane Drexler’s mother is very ill and she expects to be flying to South Africa soon.

FPT Council:
Dear Friends,
1) Thank you for pioneering the use of Zoom. It is working very well for the FPT Council! Today we had 18 on the call, and there were no disruptions.
2) On the morning of May 18th, which is the first day of the FPT F2F, there will be a meeting of the three Initiatives. They will be exchanging ideas, discussing problems, and sharing experiences. Well done!
3) All working group members, and members of the council who do not get to the F2F, are invited to listen and perhaps see all or part of the F2F Meeting of Friends Peace Teams. Hayley Hathaway, the communications specialist, will send out an invitation giving the time of the Business Meeting Sessions, and the Quaker Quest time. Then she will send out instructions on how to put Zoom on your computer and the blue letters you have to click to get to the Zoom meeting.
4) The Governance Committee of FPT has started to work. The first topic is preventing conflict of interest. The Minutes of these Meetings will be available on Google Docs.
– Gay Howard, Clerk of the Communications Committee

Resources Needed:
Recording Clerk- backup to Valerie.
Jenna would like us to send her more content for publicity of FPT-AWP. We suggest we interview folk and then report on work being done.
It is important for all of us to share our stories and understanding of our Quaker practice and peace work. This helps others understand what FPT does. Felice sent an excellent report to Peaceways.

Decisions/Actions:
What do we each plan to do at YM this year? Please request materials from Jenna ASAP.
Gay asked Hayley to make her a business card- her Meeting and the details of the three initiatives. She will also put articles in the YM Sessions Newsletter that comes out daily.
John is not planning to go to AYM.
Valerie and Jane are coordinating printing of materials for Australia YM. They will set up a stand to give out the paper materials. Valerie is doing a share and tell at the end of the week as well. Vidya is on the facilitation team for an AVP workshop after YM.
Josh is in Northern YM, but not attending YM himself
Deb Wood will request a space to display FPT information at New York YM.
Fenna is not attending YM.

Do Friends approve to pay US$775 for the ceramic tiles at Peace Place out of undesignated funds?
The accommodations at Peace Place have been greatly improved by designated donations, such as purchase of trundle beds, which have allowed them to complete tasks that they would otherwise not have without such donations. They did say, however, that if they could choose, they would use funds to tile the floor. Cement floors are very dusty, hard to keep clean and don’t work well in the house, but putting ceramics on the floor is quite expensive. It would cost the equivalent of about US$775 or AU$1,000. This would make a huge difference in the lives of the people living and working there. The Working Group will be asked to consider next month if we might approve the use of undesignated funds or make an appeal for funds to tile the floors in the house at Peace Place.

Ceramic tile: 2 rooms upstairs + 1 room downstairs Rp 10,056,000 US$775 (undesignated)
DETAILS: Ceramic Tiles
Ceramic Tiles 43 dozen 6,300,000 Rp
Sand and Cement 1,968,000 Rp
Workers 1,638,000 Rp
Tile Cutter 150,000 Rp
SUBTOTAL 10,056,000 Rp
Exchange rate Rp13,325 = US$755

Ceramic Tiles for Peace Place: Friends approved USD 775 from undesignated funds to tile three rooms at Peace Place. Bathroom and two downstairs rooms are already tiled. Once the two upstairs rooms and a living room downstairs are tiled, then all will be tiled. All are in favour of proceeding with this work. Petrus says “Thank you”.

Other News: John is working on another July fundraising concert in Sydney.

Closing word:
Josh Albertson- Springing forward
Gay Howard- keep on keeping on
Valerie Joy- happily involved
Fenna Mandolang- voluntarily
John Michaelis- establishing a solid base for our work
Petrus- commitment to strengthen AVP
Vidya- working together
Deb Wood- peaceful
