Questions and Feedback on News and Updates:
Indonesia – no update this month
Nepal – no update this month
Philippines – no update this month
Power of Goodness – no update this month

Reports:
Initiative Coordinators:
Is the Friends Peace Teams AWP Working Group clear that the FPT-AWP Working Group administers U.S. funds and activities on behalf of the Friends Peace Teams Council, which is the governing body designated in the FPT Articles of Incorporation (U.S.), and serves both as the governing and administrative body for Australian funds and activities as designated in the Friends Peace Teams AWP Rules of Association (New South Wales, Australia)?
Decision:
Friends Peace Teams AWP Working Group administers funds in the U.S. account, and activities made possible by those funds, on behalf of the Friends Peace Teams Council, which is the legal, governing body as designated in the FPT Articles of Incorporation (U.S.).
Friends Peace Teams AWP Working Group serves both as the governing and administrative body for funds in the Australian account, and activities made possible by those funds, as designated in the Friends Peace Teams AWP Rules of Association (New South Wales, Australia).

Communications:
Requests for the Working Group
• Friends Journal contract runs out with the October 2016 issue. We have been running ads in every other issue. The ad reservation deadline for the December 2016 issue is October 14th. Do we want to renew the contract? (see attached contract proposal) – no empirical evidence of the current ads increasing exposure (deb & others: it’s not essential to continue the ad due to ambiguous results however it wouldn’t be a bad idea to keep the ad running, because is a method of keeping quakerism present on the media stream in Australlia).
We ask Jenna to try to submit short news reports to Friends Journal, Western Friend, Quaker Life and Australian Friend and report back in 6 months. At that time we will reconsider whether we want to advertise in the publications.
• Need news/information by 9/15/16 for the Fall appeal.
• PeaceWays deadline is 9/15/16. Theme suggestion from Caroline: Regarding the subject of the newsletter – my thought is that it is the “side effects”. The example I gave was a comment in the last newsletter that said something about the idea came from a comment in the last PeaceWays. On page 5, at the end of the first paragraph is the sort of aside “…. which positively affects their learning environment.” The implication I infer is that the practice in AVP indirectly benefits the students’ academic performance as well as helps the students deal with conflict and violence.
That example is an academic one, with youth, but i hope there are other examples in other settings. E.g. I could imagine that the training in AVP/HROC might help people form cohesive groups within a community.
Sharon Hoover suggests: [Caroline] mentions specifically AVP benefitting academic performance. I would think that Nanik could speak to that very well. I certainly saw evidences of it at Peace Place.

Narrative
This month, in addition to the routine tasks, I began working on tracking and updating the Sustainers information and began to prepare the Fall mailing. I sent several letters out to sustainers who are coming up on their renewal, are late or have lapsed. On October 1st I will be able to cull the Sustainer spreadsheet and I now have a timely routine to keep in contact with sustainers at regular intervals. I would still like to pair Working Group members up with Sustainers to personalize out contact with them. I would also like to pick a date to hold the open Working Group call for Sustainers to join.

FPT Council: The council is trying to work out the responsibilities of the the council, the coordinators, and the working groups. Also how do the responsibilities flow through the network.

Resources Needed:
Working group call host/technician
Peace Place Land purchase remaining balance
International training in February 2017 dates set for Feb 12th – 18th, visit Feb 9-23 at Peace Place in Pati, Central Java; visit Feb 23 – Mar 3 in the Mentawai Islands, West Sumatra; visit Mar 3-18 in Manila and Tagbilaran City in the Philippines. Now that dates have been set, we could explore whether we could bring some of the Afghani trainers to Indonesia. Valerie spoke with Rosemary who said a couple Afghani men might come, but not likely. Nadine wrote to Ann and Joe DiGarbo about who to invite from Palestine, who directed her to speak with Welsh Friend, Jane ____. Nadine will follow up again. Petrus is seeking a couple Papuan participants who Helen and Jim may wish to fund.
AWP Working Group writers for the joint FPT PeaceWays articles–Petrus drafted something Nadine will translate and send to Vidya.
AWP Working Group communication support to give Jenna guidance and feedback
Funding for two Palestinian women activists in Hebron to attend the International Peace Training at Peace Place. Valerie Joy asked Rosemary if this is a good idea at this time for the Afghani women and where the funding might come from, and Nadine will contact J. Scardina and Lancaster Meeting to see if this is a good idea for the Palestinian women and if they would like to fund that opportunity.
Resources Met:
Recording Clerk — Valerie Joy and Ebere Joseph have volunteered. THANK YOU!!! Jack Willis, who previously volunteered, had a sudden, unexpected health emergency that will require ongoing attention.

Decisions/Actions:

We need writers to write:
An article for the Joint FPT Peaceways on ancillary benefits from our peace work. — Nadine will translate Petrus’ draft and Vidya will supplement before being sent in.
An article for the FPT-AWP Fall mailing on Peace Place. — Nadine will ask Feliz to work with Nanik and Petrus.
An appeal letter for FPT-AWP. — Ebere will draft in consultation with Fenna and then send to John Michaelis for editing. Jenna will send previous appeals.
Would anyone volunteer to write the FPT Joint Peaceways article and/or an appeal letter for FPT-AWP?
John will help doing editing on any or all of these, but would defer to a proofreader for final edits.

Closing word:
Nadine Hoover – grateful
Gay Howard – love
Ebere Joseph – happy
Valerie Joy – caring
Fenna Mandolang – vigilant
Jenna Morales – thoughtful
Petrus – be careful
Vidya Sutton – wow! Intense, good, challenging
Deb Wood – yes
