Questions and Feedback on News and Updates:
None to report from Working Group– a reminder that all are encouraged to share any writing large or small regarding FPT AWP work or how participating in FPT AWP is working within you whether a report of activities, a story of insight or impact, an extended check in, or other form of sharing.

Indonesia – Working on finalizing dates for a trip February 2017. Asked if AFSC International if they would like to send their staff in Indonesian to our training, if so, do they want the whole thing. If not, we’ll try to do the AVP basic empowerment, resiliency and liberation training the first two weeks of February. Petrus hopes that Nadine will go to Mentawai Islands. That would cost some money but mostly time, since it’s two day trip out and back from Jakarta.
Indonesia Peace Place – They have been very busy with sojourners and with the school. Petrus and Nanik produced a legal letter with the Peace Place Association concerning the purpose of the land to share with the Australians. Hopefully with this assurance, Australian Friends will feel able to contribute what’s needed in order to complete the sale. Thank you to Petrus, it’s too bad it was not available from the beginning, but it was a very good lettter. In Australia the final decision will be made by the new committee and Standing Committee regarding
Korea – Youngsil said that the Koreans would like Nadine to come again next year to do the Liberation workshop for the AVP facilitators in Korea. Nadine’s not sure how to work out the time, but would like to go.
Nepal – Subhash has been ill with significant thyroid problems and he is moving his family to a new home. He says he’ll send news as soon as they are moved and settled in .
Philippines – Kins invited Nadine to come to the Philippines the first two weeks of March to do training in Bohol and Manila, hopefully bringing some people up from Davao City in Mindanao, but she and Ludwig have not responded with a detailed schedule and whether or not they are accepting others on the team. Valerie Joy told them she would like to join Nadine in this visit. It would give Nadine and Valerie a great chance to work together again and to catch up.
Power of Goodness – Nadine, Autumn and Youngsil did two school and two library events this past month that were very successful. We are planning to do an event in Sandy Spring MD, September 29-30, and work on new stories on October 1, 2017, then hopefully meet with the Sandy Springs Friends Meeting. It has proven very hard to distribute in the US, but we will be collecting new stories.
Writing – Nadine is on a writing sabbatical, hoping to finish a book entitled, one glass of water, which is an overview of the training she developed in the past decade in Asia.

Reports:
Initiative Coordinators:
The initiative coordinators invite Working Group members to consider attending the Friends Peace Teams Face to Face Meeting May 18 – 21, 2017 and the AVP-USA Gathering May 25-29, 2017, both in Cambridge, MA next year. QUIP Quakers Uniting in Publications will meet May 11-14, 2017, but we do not know where yet.

Communications:
In July I took my family vacation so my time is a little less this month. In addition to the routine tasks I went through the AWP Google docs and made recommendations for updating the list. Most of the suggestions were to either eliminate or archive old documents. A couple documents need updating and I will work on that in August. I also continued to send publicity materials to YM reps. In July we also tried our first call on Zoom (alternative to Skype). While it went fairly well, Zoom’s service is different from Skype and it may take a few calls to work out the new process. I will facilitate the call again in August to help with that. Our one month trial expires August 4th. On the next call we should decide on renewing for another month or commit to the yearly fee which is cheaper than paying monthly.

Requests for the Working Group

FPT Council: JULY 2016 REPORT TO AWP
At the July meeting of the FPT council, there was a long and fruitful discussion of a coordinator’s duties, prompted by the tension that AGLI, another FPT initiative, is currently experiencing. Working Groups and the Council need to make clear what the role of the Working Groups is. Is it decision making? Is it advisory? What are the lines of authority in FPT among coordinators, working groups, and the council? It was made clear that the FPT Council is ultimately responsible for the finances of FPT.

Resources Needed:
Peace Place Land purchase remaining balance
International training in February 2017 dates set for Feb 4th – 11th. Support has been offered if dates were set. Now that dates have been set, we could explore whether we could bring some of the Afghani trainers to Indonesia. Valerie will reach out to Rosemary to see what possibilities may be available.
AWP Working Group writers for the joint FPT PeaceWays articles.
AWP Working Group communication support to give Jenna guidance and feedback
Funding for two Afghani women’s rights activists and two Palestinian women activists in Hebron to attend the International Peace Training at Peace Place. Valerie Joy will ask Rosemary if this is a good idea at this time for the Afghani women and where the funding might come from, and Nadine will contact J. Scardina and Lancaster Meeting to see if this is a good idea for the Palestinian women and if they would like to fund that opportunity.
Resources Met:
Recording Clerk — Valerie Joy and Jack Willis have volunteered. THANK YOU!!!

Decisions/Actions:
Zoom:
Gay – failed 3 times
Jane – worked well
Nadine – sound into call was erratic
Deb – worked easily
Vidya – iPhone link confusing
Valerie – didn’t find link to join
Josh – no problems

Jenna to sign up for one more month of Zoom service to see how the call goes for September.ber. A review will be done next month.

Sharing: What gives my life meaning or makes me feel hopeful?
Jenna – went to a neighbourhood meeting and the goal is to know who lives nearby. A book was presented.
Valerie – beautiful networks she has give meaning and make her smile.
Deb – all of the lessons she has learned through experience with AVP. Her local AVP is doing more work in the community with young people and this gives hope.
Nadine – was out picking blueberries today and met a rural mechanic. He has an Indian couple living with him and they talked about their commitment to communications. Compassion and engagement is hopeful.
Jane – music, I play the piano, and with friends, it brings people together with beauty, and transcends the ordinary in life.
Vidya – it’s been wonderful to do enough workshops in New Castle to be changed by the time they come to the next workshop, being up in the headland to hear all the bush birds has been just glorious
Fenna – it’s similar to Jenna and Valerie, the direct connection and connection to people, it’s the process of trying to make the right decision, the best decision you can make in that time and place, and having faith that as you move forward it will lead into paths that you could never plan for.
Gay – In my yearly meeting and in FGC it looks like people are paying more attention to the spiritual side of Quakerism, and that’s been lacking for awhile. I am so aware of how the mystical part of Quakerism is so important and we must not forget that.
Josh – I’m happy that I now see my family once a day instead of once a year like it used to be.

Closing word:
Josh Albertson – yeah! clap!
Jane Drexler – engaged
Nadine Hoover – lots of love
Gay Howard – hopeful
Valerie Joy
Fenna Mandolang – connected
Jenna Morales – neighbors
Vidya Sutton – looking to the future together
Deb Wood – peaceful
