Ferizal, Langsa, East Aceh, Indonesia • 25 September 1975 – 3 July 2017

Friends who have visited Aceh with us will be very sad to hear the news that Fery of Langsa has passed away on the 3rd of July 2017 at 42 years old. According to Tengku Nasrudin, he saw Fery last night, and he seemed fine. At 4:00 am he went into the bathroom and fainted. He was very weak, so they took him to the RSUD Langsa Hospital at 5:00 am. He was pronounced dead on arrival.

Fery was a dear friend in East Aceh who was kind, caring and had an infectious smile and laugh that put people at ease. He was dedicated to his family and gave his best to whatever work he was doing. As one of the first AVP facilitators in Indonesia, he took to the work naturally and actively supported AVP in Aceh. He coordinated Friends Peace Teams activities at the outset, and enthusiastically helped establish an annual, one-week AVP orientation at Bustanul Fakri, a school for war orphans in Langsa. In 2008, he joined Petrus and Sarah Mandolang in facilitating the first workshop in Pati, Central Java that has now grown into Peace Place, spreading peace education throughout Indonesia and Asia. Recently he supported the distribution of ceramic water filters in East Aceh. He will be missed terribly.

May Ferizal rest in peace. We grieve the loss of this great friend in the struggle for peace to East Aceh. Our hearts go out to his family and friends as we endure this significant loss in all our lives.
