Sarah Mandolang, Alfred NY, USA (English)

My name is Sarah Mandolang, I live in Alfred NY, USA, I was born in 1986. I spend my time working, cleaning the house, journaling, taking relaxing baths at home, playing all kinds of games, partying, and day dreaming. I am called to working on awareness and self introspection. By awareness I mean observing life as it is, and trying to shed the filters of judgement and worldly desires that distort my vision.

When I feel a negative feeling I look inside and ask myself what is the root of this feeling, and my awareness helps bring me out of a self centered place and into a place of the living spirit. By awareness I mean observing life as it is, and trying to shed the filters of judgement and worldly desires that distort my vision. I build peace in my home by taking care of myself the best I can, so that I am in a calm and loving place. As a late teen I understood this to mean: Be kind to myself and others; sleep enough and on a regular schedule;eat healthy; be physically active, and laugh every day. That list morphed over time, growing and shrinking in turn with regular revision. Now taking care of myself is not a list but a conversation with the divine in each moment about what do I do now. This answer changes and shifts with each new moment. I build peace in my community by acknowledging and standing up for the inherent dignity of every person.

Working with Friends Peace Teams in Asia West Pacific, cleaning a local hair salon, serving local and organic food at Nana’s Japanese Cafe, and supporting and celebrating others’ work of peace have all made my community better. I value sobriety and curiosity about life in a friend. I value what this other person has to teach me about myself and the world. What gives my life meaning is the living spirit. Knowing and doing what is right is not enough, I have to have an inward experience of worth and the living spirit.
